“You are just like your mother,” the young boy huffed angrily. “I’m glad,” I replied, haughtily. I was proud of my mother. She was loving and kind, but a strong leader, always leading some charitable project. She was loved and respected at church, in our neighborhood, and in our extended family.
If you could come over to my house, I would put the tea kettle on and make you a big mug of herb tea. Then I would serve you a slice of my gooey rich Tunnel of Fudge Cake, rich chocolate cake with a ribbon of creamy fudge running through it. We would sit and talk about life, homeschooling, husbands, children, world affairs. I would encourage you, tell you that you are doing a great job, and remind you that you are the perfect parent for your child.
Sitting here while the family sleeps on Christmas morning. So thankful for my Savior who was born so many years ago into an enemy-occupied Israel who was waiting for a strong military Messiah who would rescue them from the Romans.
“Kiss the Son lest He be angry,” it says in Psalm 2. If you step back and look around at the world, no one seems very concerned with getting right with the Son, born in Bethlehem. People mock Him, take their stand against Jesus. He certainly arouses anger. He cannot be mentioned in public gatherings or quoted in school. His authority is mocked and ridiculed.

Next week is Christmas! There is so much left to do. By now, homeschooling is finished until after New Years Day except for that child that is “catching up” on math or some other subject because they are so behind! But is school ever over? What things does God have to teach us and our precious children this holiday season.
What fun to open stockings at Christmas! There is something about putting your hand inside and wondering what you will touch. Enchantment and wonder seem to go along with Christmas. What makes Christmas so special? Often, what warms our hearts are the memories of Christmas traditions.
Do you want to combine hands-on-learning with celebrating Christmas? Then plan some special Christmas field trips for the month of December! Almost every store, museum, bank, business, and church decorates for Christmas. Just going on your weekly errands, you can discuss Christmas decorations. You can observe whether these places are saying, “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Holidays.” You could even collect data and make a bar graph! Every place is more fun to visit at this festive time of year because it’s all decked out!
